A few months ago, comedienne/actress Leslie Jones took to twitter discussing her frustration with the lack of designers wanting to dress her for the Ghostbusters premiere. Moments later, Project Runway alum, Christian Siriano, hastily responded to Jones’ tweet displaying his eagerness to design a gown for her.
With the help of Siriano, Leslie stunned on the green carpet in a custom off the shoulder gown (which resembled Julia Roberts famous scarlet gown in the 1990 classic Pretty Woman) along with minimal silver accessories.
Although Siriano came to Jones’ aid, should we praise the designer for doing his job? Why aren’t designers quick to dress celebrities who don’t fit the size mold or society’s standards of beauty? What actions should then be taken for designers to consider reaching this group? As a designer, shouldn’t individuals of all sizes be considered? WEIGH IN! (pun intended)
