DUPP&SWAT GRAND RE-OPENING THIS WEEK

July 24, 2017

CHARLOTTE, NC: After their original location was dismantled last year, super-siblings Davita and Dion Galloway are re-opening their infamous artists collective and event space Thursday, July 27th. dupp&swat is located at 2521 The Plaza and features a retail portion where clothing designers can display and sell their wares, as well as an extensive art collection. As with the designers, various artists cover the walls (of dupp&swat) to display and sell their art.

The grand re-opening celebration will take place all day, starting at 11am, at the new location, with a more formal event beginning at 6:00pm. The re-opening will serve as a fundraising event for CrownKeepers, the nonprofit arm of dupp&swat. The mission of CrownKeepers is to provide hands-on training, as well as art and trade-based education to those lacking creative and entrepreneurial opportunities.

dupp&swat will also open a “concept location” at the Boileryard, which is a part of the massive Camp North End project in North Charlotte. The Boileryard will hold their open house this coming Friday, July 28th from 5pm -9pm and will showcase their new tenants, of which dupp&swat is one. This event will run in conjunction with the Boileryard’s “Fridays at Camp North End” which have grown in popularity.

Davita Galloway has recently been getting a lot of press around Charlotte due in part to her riveting talk at CreativeMornings in June of this year. Galloway has called for the end of the “starving artist” and put forth a call to action, “In order for our art and creative community to survive, artists must survive.” CrownKeepers will be starting a capital campaign later this year to fund an expansion of their programs.
